Cops told: Wear uniform when securing politicians
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police chief Lt. Gen. Dionardo Carlos wants police officers in complete PNP uniform even if they are acting as security escorts of politicians.
Carlos said the measure would ensure police officers serving as security detail of politicians are immediately identified.
“I plan to deploy them even if they are detailed as police bodyguards in complete, proper and appropriate PNP uniform so we can easily identify them,” he said in a news briefing at Camp Crame yesterday.
The PNP Police Security and Protection Group has started an accounting of police officers serving as security escorts of politicians ahead of the May 2022 elections.
“Come election time, we make sure to keep them non-partisan, neutral and professional,” he said.
