58 kids in Cebu shelters get COVID-19
CEBU, Philippines — Fifty-eight children in two shelter homes in Cebu province have tested positive for COVID-19.
Twenty-seven youths aged 15 to 20 at a facility run by a religious group in Barangay Talamban in Cebu City were found to have contracted the virus.
Cebu City emergency operations center deputy chief implementer Joel Garganera said the Talamban center has been locked down and the infected children isolated.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan inspected yesterday the Home Care Center for Children in Sitio Tugas, Barangay Gun-ob, where 31 children and two staff tested positive for the virus.
The center serves as a shelter for abandoned or neglected children and those in conflict with the law.
The reason for the transmission is still being verified. – Mitchelle Palaubsanon/The Freeman
