More Boracay properties eyed for CARP coverage

Rhodina Villanueva - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently revalidated and inspected properties in Boracay that could be included under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).

The revalidation and inspection were in line with the pronouncement of President Duterte to make Boracay Island a land reform area, according to DAR Western Visayas chief Sheila Enciso.

In 2018, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) turned over to DAR the first batch of eight landholdings covering a total area of 7.96 hectares located in Barangay Manoc-Manoc.

The property was distributed to 44 beneficaries who belonged to indigenous peoples groups.

After the successful implementation of the first batch of property that was turned over by the DENR to DAR, the second batch of agricultural lands composed of 12 lots was identified and set for acquisition and distribution to agrarian reform beneficiaries.

The parcels of lands require revalidation as provided under the DENR-Land Management Bureau bulletin issued in 2019.
