2 more cops die of COVID-19
MANILA, Philippines — Two more police personnel died days after contracting COVID-19 as the Philippine National Police (PNP) recorded 107 new cases on Sunday.
The PNP said a 46-year-old immunocompromised police officer assigned in Valenzuela City died of acute respiratory failure secondary to COVID-19. The other fatality was a 49-year-old female non-uniformed officer.
“The families of the deceased PNP personnel will receive financial support and social benefits,” PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas said.
The PNP’s Administrative Support for COVID-19 Task Force said 107 police officers tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday. Four of them contracted the virus for the second time.
Most of the COVID-19 infections came from the police regional offices with 92, national operational support units with 10 and the PNP national headquarters with five.
The PNP has logged a total of 19,639 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started in March last year.
