Soldier, 4 BIFF bandits wounded in clash

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines —  A soldier and four members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters were wounded in an encounter in Kabuntalan, Maguindanao on Monday.

“The casualty was immediately extricated... and is now recuperating at Camp Siongco Station Hospital,” Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr., Western Mindanao Command chief, said.

Vinluan said two rifles, a caliber .45 pistol and an improvised explosive device were among those recovered at the scene.

The bandits, led by Omar Abdullah, reportedly fired at personnel of the 34th Infantry Battalion in Sitio Macabenban, Barangay Indatuan.

On Sunday night, six villagers, three of them children, were wounded in an explosion that ripped through a village in Datu Salibo.

Members of the Salibo peace and order council said the victims suffered shrapnel wounds in various parts of the bodies.

According to a report received by Brig. Gen. Samuel Rodriguez of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police, a mortar round hit the house of the victims in Barangay Sambolawan. – John Unson
