Missing lawyer’s bag found in Mindoro

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna , Philippines — The bag of UP law professor Ryan Oliva, who was reported missing on Saturday last week, was found on the shore of Looc, Occidental Mindoro on Friday.

Police said Jinny Histas, an employee of Algimar Construction Co., spotted the bag, which was covered with sand and trash in Sitio Natalon in Barangay Balikyas at around 6 a.m.

Lt. Col. Imelda Tolentino, Mimaropa police spokesperson, said Oliva’s driver’s license, a cellular phone, a charger and ATM cards were among those found in the bag.

Oliva, who also works at the Department of Tourism’s legislative liaison unit, was last seen leaving his home in Quezon City on Saturday night. He was spotted in Taguig City on Nov. 22.

Col. Hordan Pacatiw, Occidental Mindoro police director, said Oliva’s bag could have been washed ashore in Looc.

Pacatiw said Oliva was not sighted in Occidental Mindoro, adding that it is more likely that the lawyer was either in Calatagan or Nasugbu in Batangas, which is nearest Looc.

National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) spokesman Ferdinand Lavin said a taxi driver claimed to have dropped off Oliva in Batangas  as the lawyer told him that he wanted alone time by the sea.
