5 Pangasinan cop chiefs relieved

Eva Visperas - The Philippine Star

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Philippines — Seven police chiefs in Pangasinan were relieved from their posts yesterday.

Brig. Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., Ilocos police director, said the police chiefs of Alaminos and Dagupan cities as well as the towns of San Fabian, Binmaley and Malasiqui were replaced even as he clarified that it has nothing to do with an anti-illegal gambling drive conducted in their areas of jurisdiction last week.

At least 173 people were arrested and P862,665 in bet money was confiscated in the operations led by personnel of the regional police office.

A memorandum from the Office of Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea dated Jan. 29 states that Peryahan ng Bayan is among those not allowed to resume operations.
