MANILA, Philippines — A new police director has been appointed for the Ilocos region, according to the Philippine National Police.

PNP chief Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa yesterday appointed Brig. Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. as chief of the Ilocos region police.

Azurin, former commander of the Maritime Group, replaced Brig. Gen. Joel Orduna, who turned 56 years old yesterday, the mandatory retirement age in the police service.

A member of the Philippine Military Academy Makatao Class of 1989, Azurin served as deputy director of the PNP directorate for personnel and records management.

As head of the Ilocos region police, Azurin has supervision and control over police units in the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan.

Azurin is replaced at the Maritime Group by his mistah, Brig. Gen. Omega Jireh Fidel of the PNP engineering service.

Aside from Azurin, the PNP appointed Col. Abelardo Matillano as chief of the engineering service and Col. Angeles Genorga Jr. as officer-in-charge of the police training service.
