Bottles of gin stashed in coffin seized in Pangasinan

BINMALEY, Pangasinan, Philippines  – Bottles of gin hidden in a coffin were confiscated from a funeral car in Barangay Biec in this town yesterday.

Jeffrey Velasco, 23, driver of Abalos Funeral Homes, was traveling to Lingayen when the funeral car was flagged down at a quarantine checkpoint, Lt. Col. Brendon Palisoc, town police chief, told The STAR.

Palisoc said Velasco faces charges for violation of Republic Act 11469 or the Act Declaring the Existence of a National Emergency arising from the coronavirus disease 2019, among other cases.

In Negros Occidental, 14 people who attended a burial in Pulupandan town were arrested on Sunday.

Capt. Junji Liba, Pulupandan police chief, said the family of the deceased had been repeatedly advised to limit the number of those who will attend the burial.

Lovers nabbed

In Ilocos Sur, a couple was arrested after they were caught while reportedly having sex in a vacant lot in Bantay town on Monday.

Police said the lovers, aged 31 and 57, were caught by three children playing in the area in Barangay Ora East at around 1 p.m. The children informed the husband of the woman who filed charges against his wife.

The couple also faces charges for violating quarantine protocols.

In Cagayan, six people were arrested for not observing physical distancing while eating at a restaurant in Barangay San Jose in Baggao.
