Isko Moreno wants trip-cutting jeepney drivers’ franchise suspended
MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno yesterday called on the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to suspend the franchises of passenger jeepneys plying the Baclaran-Divisoria route for cutting their trips short.
“We will file a (petition for the) suspension of the franchise before the LTFRB. I will not be the complainant. It will be the City of Manila,” he said.
Moreno said commuters pay the exact fare “so drivers should give the equivalent service.”
He said the drivers argue that most of the streets in Divisoria are clogged so they opted to cut their trips. The mayor countered that Divisoria’s streets are now open to vehicles.
Moreno also warned drivers of other routes such as MCU-Blumentritt, Cubao-Divisoria, Maypajo-Juan Luna, Faura-Pedro Gil, and Paco that he will also ask for the suspension of their respective franchises if do not stop cutting their trips short.
