Ex-councilor arrested for car rental scam
MANILA, Philippines — A former councilor in Pampanga said to be involved in a car rental scam was arrested in Quezon City yesterday.
Glendy Nacu, 39, ex-councilor of Sasmuan town, was arrested in a fast-food restaurant in Barangay Talipapa at around 7:30 a.m., Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel Jr., Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director, said in a news briefing.
Police officers from the Talipapa police station apprehended Nacu based on a warrant of arrest for car theft issued by a court in Angeles City.
The operation stemmed from information provided by two of his victims that Nacu is involved in a “rent tangay” modus operandi in Pampanga.
The suspect would borrow vehicles from friends and acquaintances with the promise of paying them a daily rental fee. However, Nacu disappears once he gets hold of the vehicle.
“One of the complainants also revealed that the suspect has a pending warrant of arrest for carnapping,” Esquivel said.
The suspect was brought to the police station for documentation before he is presented to the court handling his case.
