Pasig jail visitor caught with shabu
MANILA, Philippines — Police arrested a woman on Thursday after she allegedly attempted to sneak shabu into the Pasig City jail where her partner is being held on drug charges.
Maria Fe. Soria yielded four sachets of shabu, according to jail warden Lt. Col. Emmanuel Tolentino.
Tolentino said Soria visited her partner, Adonis Alpao, who was arrested for drugs on Jan. 24.
Police said Soria acted strangely when Jail Officer 2 Michelle Latao frisked her.
The suspect admitted that the drugs were for Alpao, Tolentino said.
Authorities said Soria had tested positive for drug use.
According to Tolentino, at least 1,506 detainees are being held at the Pasig City jail. Of the number, 77 percent or more than 1,000 are on trial for drugs.
In Marikina, five suspected drug pushers were arrested in separate stings in the past two days.
They were Delfin Clemente, 25; Melba Mahinay, 34; Erlinda Avena, 43; Dan Miranda, 42, and Emmanuel Soriano.
The suspects were nabbed in Barangays Malanday, Parang and Concepcion Uno.
Police said they recovered 17 sachets of shabu and P500 in marked money from the suspects.
