MANILA, Philippines — Officials of the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) may be charged in connection with the collision of two Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) trains that left 34 persons injured last Saturday, an official said yesterday.
The LRTA concluded its investigation yesterday and the agency will recommend filing charges against all persons accountable for the incident, including its own officials, LRT-2 spokesman Hernando Cabrera told The STAR.
“Part of the recommendations will be the pursuit and conduct of proper actions,” Cabrera said.
He also responded in the affirmative when asked if LRTA officials are among those who may be charged.
Cabrera assured the public that they will be transparent with the results of the investigation of the crash, which occurred between the Anonas and Cubao stations at past 9 p.m. last May 18 and left 30 commuters and four LRT-2 personnel injured.
He also said that safety measures and other concerns are also included in their recommendations to avoid similar incidents in the future.
Asked about the initial results of the investigation, Cabrera refused to respond except to say that the fact-finding committee terminated the inquiry on Thursday and planned to have it completed and signed yesterday.
“There were a lot who were interviewed. Train monitoring system data and voice recordings were appreciated. Some simulations were done. Numerous documents were looked into,” he said.
Cabrera added that a lot of input needed to be included in the report.
