2 fires hit Sta. Cruz, Tondo
MANILA, Philippines — More than 75 families lost their homes after two successive fires broke out in Sta. Cruz and Tondo, Manila yesterday morning.
The first fire hit a residential area along Yuseco street in Sta. Cruz at around 7:45 a.m.
At least seven houses were burned to the ground and 15 families were affected, though no one was injured in the incident. The fire reached third alarm and was put under control at around 8:30 a.m.
Fire Chief Inspector Joselito Reyes, ground commander, said the timely arrival of firefighters stopped the flames from spreading.
At around 11 a.m., another fire broke out along Aplaya in Baseco Compound in tondo.
Fire Superintendent Jonas Silvano said they are still trying to determine the cause of the fire, which razed 20 houses and left more than 60 families homeless.
