Man gunned down in Tondo

MANILA, Philippines — A 21-year-old man was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants in Gagalangin, Tondo before dawn yesterday.

John Ben Teñafrancia was chatting with his friends at the corner of Ma. Guizon and V. Serrano streets when two men on a motorcycle arrived and opened fire at around 1:49 a.m.

Teñafrancia was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Superintendent Gerry Corpuz, commander of the Manila Police District Station 7, said they were investigating if the victim was killed due to a drug deal gone sour.

Police said Teñafrancia was on the drug watchlist of the barangay.

His uncle was detained at the Manila city jail following his arrest for illegal drugs last month.
