Bus driver dies in garage mishap in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines — A bus driver died after he was hit by an electric post toppled over by a runaway bus in Quezon City on Monday.

Bienvenido Amolar, 53, was standing in front of the canteen at the Admiral Bus firm’s garage when the bus – which was unoccupied – moved backward and hit the garage’s steel gate at around 4 a.m., police said.

The gate was ripped off and hit a concrete post that toppled onto Amolar, who was rushed to the Quezon City General Hospital. He died while being treated.

Probers said there was no driver inside the bus involved in the accident. The driver supposedly got off to go to their dispatcher when the bus slid backward.
