63 families displaced in Butuan fire

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines — More than 60 families composed of 350 individuals were left homeless in a fire that destroyed at least 80 houses made of light materials in this city on Saturday.

Probers have yet to determine whether the blaze originated from a house owned by Luz Sabalo or was caused by a group of children seen playing matches near a wake in Barangay Obrero.

City fire marshal Cesar Dejos said they received reports that a kitchen fire was left unattended at Sabalo’s house.

The fire victims sought shelter at the village’s covered court.
