Overheated hardware shuts down government websites

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Overheated hardware resulted in the shutdown of several government websites this week.

Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Assistant Secretary Allan Cabanlong said the government websites had to be taken down while the affected servers were being repaired.

“The websites are undergoing repairs due to equipment problem,” Cabanlong said in a phone interview with The STAR.

Government websites remained inaccessible as of yesterday afternoon, including that of the DICT, Official Gazette and the Presidential Communication and Operations Office.

The maintenance of the government websites are under the iGovPhil project, which seeks to improve public services online.

Cabanlong said no cybersecurity threat has been monitored in relation to the shutdown.
