NCRPO: Homicides up by 72% in Metro Manila
MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has put in place measures to prevent killings in Metro Manila following a spike in homicide cases.
A total of 91 homicides were recorded from April 16 to May 20, higher by 73.62 percent when compared to 24 cases during the same period last year.
Homicide is one of the eight focus crimes. The others are murder, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft and carnapping of motorcycles and motor vehicles.
NCRPO chief Director Camilo Pancratius Cascolan said yesterday among the measures they have done to prevent more killings are the deploying of additional police personnel in high-risk areas, some of them located in Caloocan, Pasay and Taguig.
“We have continuous inspections and patrols at crime-prone areas,” Cascolan said in a text message.
They are also actively coordinating with force multipliers such as barangay peacekeeping officers, he said.
Meanwhile, the NCRPO has recorded a decrease of 29.78 percent in the other seven focus crimes from May 14 to 20, wherein 231 crimes were recorded, lower when compared to 329 cases during the same period last year.
