Cop dead, 6 hurt in shooting

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – A police officer was killed in Balayan, Batangas after midnight yesterday.

Senior Police Officer 1 Brian de Jesus was watching a live band when he was shot. He died while being treated in a hospital. Six other persons were hit by stray bullets and taken to the hospital for treatment.

A manhunt for the assailants, who escaped in a follow-up operation in Barangay Caybunga, is underway. Two of the gunmen were identified as Rodolfo Macalindog and Francisco Aroyo.

Catrina Camil de la Cruz, who was in the alleged hideout of the suspects, was wounded in the gunfight and brought to the Balayan Memorial District Hospital for treatment.
