Bataan index crime rate down

Ric Sapnu - The Philippine Star

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines – Index crimes in Bataan decreased significantly following an intensified campaign against illegal drugs, authorities said on Saturday.

The Bataan police recorded 143 index crimes from January to March this year.

The figure is down from 182 recorded during the same period last year, according to provincial police director Senior Superintendent Benjamin Silo Jr.

Index crimes are offenses committed against persons and property.

Silo said murder, homicide, physical injury and rape are crimes against persons. Robbery, theft, carjacking and cattle rustling are against property.

The provincial police recorded 81 crimes against persons from January to March this year, down from 95 in the same period last year.

Crimes against property decreased from 87 in 2016 to 62 this year.

The decrease was attributed to the surrender of 9,576 drug dependents in 11 towns and one city.
