Zamboanga town mayor survives ambush

The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – The mayor of a town in Zamboanga del Sur was unhurt in an ambush in Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay on Monday night.

Kumalarang Mayor Eugenio Salva Jr. was in a sport utility vehicle driven by Rico Ranido with Roger Brazil and Police Officer 2 Markwin Caylan when they were waylaid in Barangay Basalem at around 6:30 p.m.

Case investigator PO2 Roberto Suya Jr. said Salva did not mind the gunshots, thinking that they were firecrackers.

Salava said it was only when they got home in Barangay Kumalarang that he noticed that his vehicle bore bullet holes.

“The mayor said he has no idea on the motive for the attempt on his life because he knows no enemy,” Suya said. – Roel Pareño, Emma-nuel Tupas
