DPWH execs pressed on action plans vs climate change

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has directed the regional directors and district engineers in the Visayas and Mindanao to come up with action plans on climate change.

In a statement issued on Saturday, DPWH Undersecretary Rafael Yabut said concerned officials should address overflowing rivers during heavy rains.

Yabut said the master plan would enable the DPWH to provide long-term solutions to flooding.

He said the unified project management office and flood control management cluster of the DPWH would assist in the formulation of the action plan.

The country has 18 major river basins.

The DPWH has started the improvement of the Cagayan River basin, the largest in the country, as part of its P356-million flood-risk management projects.
