Richard Gomez finally secures an elective post

MANILA, Philippines — After years of attempting to enter politics, actor and athlete Richard Gomez won as as mayor of Ormoc City in Leyte, the home turf of his wife, Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres.

On Monday, Gomez was proclaimed on Tuesday as mayor with 53,234 votes, defeating Ondo Codilla with 44,453 votes.

He was running under the Nacionalist People’s Coalition, while Codilla was under the Liberal Party.

Gomez first tried to secure an elective post in 2007 when he ran for senator, while he was disqualified as congressman in 2010.

While this is the second time he ran for mayor in Ormoc City. He first ran in 2013 but lost against Edward Codilla.

Gomez’s wife Lucy Torres-Gomez who ran under the Liberal Party, meanwhile, has again the won a seat in the House of Representatives, defeating Violeta Codilla.
