Boy, 10, dies after being hit by truck
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – A 10-year-old boy died after being struck by a truck in front of a school here on Friday.
Ian Paul Santillan, a Grade 5 student of Andres Bonifacio Elementary School, was crossing the street around 4:30 p.m. when the incident occurred, police said.
The Mitsubishi Canter truck was loaded with construction materials.
Senior Police Officer 1 Roger Garong said the driver of the truck, July Sombilla, surrendered.
In North Cotabato, at least 12 persons suffered serious injuries when their truck plunged into a ravine in Pigcawayan town on Friday.
Police Officer 3 Dante Lopez said the driver of the truck, identified as Misadael Bendor, lost control of the wheel as he was driving down the road.
Lopez said the victims, who were hitchhikers, were brought to a hospital for treatment. – Danny Dangcalan, John Unson
