2 dead in Pangasinan mishap

VILLASIS, Pangasinan, Philippines  – Two persons died while four others were injured when two vans collided along MacArthur Highway here Saturday.

Mitsubishi van driver Mario Torres Jr., 35, and his helper Arturo Reyes, 32, were declared dead on arrival at a hospital where Isuzu van driver Ricardo Marinay, 44, and his helpers Jonel Balbedina, 38; Bobby Pana, 29, and Jericho Tacusalme were also taken for treatment.

Reports said one of the tires of the Mitsubishi van blew, causing Torres to lose control of the wheel.

The van swerved and collided with the Isuzu coming from the opposite direction.

Meanwhile, in Zamboanga City, 27 persons, including six minors, were injured when a passenger jeepney fell into a cliff last Friday.

The city police identified one of the fatalities as jeepney driver Edgardo Matillosa.

Reports said the jeepney was running at top speed when it fell into the cliff in Barangay Sinunuc at about 3 p.m. – With Roel Pareño
