P12 M allotted for Department of Education’s Adopt-a-School Program

MANILA, Philippines - At least P11.95 million has been allotted by the Department of Education (DepEd) to support and sustain its Adopt-a-School Program (ASP) in 16 regions.

An order signed by DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro said the agency has been providing financial subsidy to 16 regions and schools division offices since 2009 to sustain the ASP initiatives, projects and activities.

Luistro said the P11.95 million would be downloaded to the implementing regions through the issuance of sub-allotment release orders.

He said the funds could be used in briefing school administrators on the implementation of ASP guidelines, and monitor and evaluate Brigada Eskwela activities and awards program at the school division and regional offices.

The funds can also be used in holding stakeholders’ forum and partnership appreciation program for the ASP.

Luistro said the money could not be used to pay for personal services such as salary and honoraria, operational expenses funded by regular maintenance and operating expenses, and capital outlay.

Submission of budget utilization or liquidation report to the school division and regional levels will be until the first week of December.

“Non-compliance may result in the suspension of the financial subsidy,” the DepEd order said.

Based on the order, each school division included in the subsidy will receive P50,000 while each regional office will get P100,000.
