CALAPAN CITY, Philippines – Several local government units in the Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan (Mimaropa) region have been ordered to liquidate more than P139 million in health funds that the Department of Health (DOH) has given them since 2008.
The DOH regional office ordered the provincial governments of Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Marinduque and Palawan to immediately settle all their unliquidated funds.
DOH-Mimaropa discovered the unliquidated funds during a three-day meeting with regional accountants last week.
The meeting was meant to reconcile fund transfers to various local government units in the region and to address issues and concerns for non-liquidation of long-standing accounts.
Of the four provinces, Oriental Mindoro topped the list with more than P57 million in unliquidated funds from 2008 to 2013, followed by Occidental Mindoro with P29 million from 2009 to 2013.
“We need to update and settle the status of fund transfers per province and municipality in time for submission of a fund utilization report,” DOH regional director Eduardo Janairo said upon learning about the financial report.
The report said Oriental Mindoro incurred the highest unliquidated funds as it received the highest amount compared with the other provinces.
