CEZA issues used car import permit

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya , Philippines   â€“ The Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) has issued an import permit for used motor vehicles following a court decision allowing its importation into the country.

Nilo Aldeguer, CEZA senior deputy administrator, said they have issued a permit to a used car importer based at the economic zone and the freeport in Santa Ana town in Cagayan where CEZA is also located.

Aldeguer said the permit is only valid within the jurisdiction of the special economic zone in Cagayan.

He said CEZA would only allow the release of the items upon the approval of the Bureau of Customs (BOC), the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

“Should the importer wish to transport the vehicles to Customs territory and out of the freeport, CEZA leaves the decision to BOC, LTO and BIR,” Aldeguer said.

These agencies, he said, are invited to inspect and conduct inventory of the shipment of used motor vehicles at the freeport to ensure proper compliance and transparency.

So far, CEZA said, only Fenix International Inc., one of the major importers of used vehicles at the economic zone, was granted with a permit to conduct business within the freeport.
