Jalosjos clan backs Garcia's Senate bid

Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia exchanges pleasantries with former Zamboanga del Norte congressman Romeo Jalosjos during a gathering of the Alliance of Parties for Progress in Dapitan City last Sept. 2.

MANILA, Philippines - The Alliance of Parties for Progress (APP) in Zamboanga del Norte has signified its support for Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, who is running for senator under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) in the May 2013 mid-term elections.

Former congressman Romeo Jalosjos invited Garcia as guest speaker during the Himamat 2012 held last Sept. 2 at the Dakak Park and Beach Resort in Dapitan City.

Himamat is a gathering of barangay captains and other officials from the city’s 50 villages under the APP.

The event was also graced by Zamboanga del Norte third district Rep. Ceasar Jalosjos.

In her speech, Garcia shared to over 1,000 barangay officials the different programs she initiated during her three terms as governor of Cebu.

One of her programs was the “Suroy Suroy Sugbo,” a tourism caravan aimed at enticing tourists to visit Cebu.

Garcia was the first woman governor of Cebu.

“She was well-received and was able to connect with the hearts of the people from Dapitan,” the former congressman said.

For his part, Zamboanga del Norte first district Rep. Seth Frederick Jalosjos thanked Garcia for attending the event.

Impressed with her good governance, the Jalosjos clan will fully support Garcia’s bid for a senatorial seat, saying the people from Visayas and Mindanao need more representatives in the halls of Senate.
