MANILA, Philippines - The local government of Malay padlocked the West Cove Hotel, said to be owned by boxing champ and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao, in Boracay Island for failure to secure necessary permits.
Malay Mayor John Parcon Yap personally closed down the West Cove Hotel, located in a cliff in Sitio Diniwid, Barangay Yapak in Boracay Island last Friday, according to Godofredo Sadiasa, Malay municipal administrator.
Sadiasa said the closure order of the hotel, operated by West Cove Management Philippines Inc. (WCMPI), was also based on Executive Order No. 010 series of 2011.
In a telephone interview with The STAR, Sadiasa said the hotel management failed to secure building permit, occupancy permit, zoning permit and mayor’s permit to operate a business.
Sadiasa said the office of the mayor also questioned West Cove Hotel’s “off-shore” development and the erection of concrete structures on the coves and rocks, which supposedly imperil the fragile ecosystem in the resort island.
Under the National Building Code of the Philippines Section 301 provides “no person, firm or corporation, including any agency or instrumentality of the government shall erect, construct, alter, repair, move, convert or demolish any building or structure or cause the same to be done without first obtaining a building permit.”
