Laguna police pushes drive vs loose firearms

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna , Philippines   – The Laguna police provincial command launched a regionwide campaign against loose firearms which resulted to the arrest of more than 60 persons.

Several criminal groups were also neutralized and hundreds of various kinds of guns and ammunitions were seized.

Police Senior Superintendent Manolito Labador, Laguna provincial director said civilian gun holders, delinquent licensed firearm owners and unregistered gun owners could avail of the general firearms amnesty under the National Firearms Control program in connection with President Arroyo’s EO No. 187.

Labador said arrested persons have been charged in court. Others were detained for illegal possession of firearms. He said they dismantled a certain Bortolo gang engaged in drug pushing during the police operation at a shabu tiangge in Barangay Malaban, Biñan, Laguna, arresting 27 people and also confiscated firearms and shabu. He said all holders of firearms with expired licenses will be given the chance to renew their expired licenses and waived all penalties and surcharges starting Aug 1. until Oct. 31.       – Ed Amoroso
