Bulacan mayors endorse Ople’s son for Congress

HAGONOY, Bulacan – Mayors from the first congressional district here have endorsed this town’s Mayor Felix Ople, one of the sons of the late statesman Blas F. Ople, to run for congressman.

A one-page manifesto signed by Mayors Donato Marcos of Paombong, James de Jesus of Calumpit, Elpidio Castillo of Pulilan, Ma. Elizabeth Villegas of Bulakan, and Danilo Domingo of Malolos City, expressed their belief on the capability of the young Ople.

They also pledged to be allied to Ople to developed the first district of Bulacan.

The endorsement came weeks before the end of the filing of candidacy for the May 14 elections.

In an interview, Ople told The STAR that he was humbled by his collegues’ endorsement.

He said he will work for the development of the towns in the first congressional district as a new investment hub, especially on aquaculture, a major industry in Hagonoy, Paombong, Malolos, and Bulakan town.

The young Ople started his political career in 1995 when he was elected councilor. In 1998, he was elected Hagonoy mayor.
