Speed up ambush probe, urges solon

VIGAN CITY — An Ilocos Sur congressman urged a joint task force yesterday to fast-track its investigation into the March 31 ambush of radioman Efren Rafanan, which left his wife, son, brother and security aide dead.

"I condemn this dastardly act. I urge the task force to solve the case swiftly and bring the perpetrators to court," said second district Rep. Eric Singson.

Late Saturday afternoon, the remains of Rafanan’s wife Evelyn, son Raffy Brian, brother Dennis and bodyguard Angelo de Ocampo, were brought to the Rafanan residence in Barangay Tamag here. They will be buried on Wednesday.

Rafanan himself and his daughter Renelyn were wounded in the attack.

Meanwhile, Vice Gov. Jeremias Singson, younger brother of former Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis "Chavit" Singson, has asked the police to go after loose firearms by setting up mobile checkpoints.

He also urged the police to institutionalize their "Operation Bakal" through body searches in public places like restaurants and beer joints. Teddy Molina
