PENELCO outstanding coop in the country

BALANGA CITY, Bataan — The Peninsula Electric Cooperative (PENELCO) has copped the most prestigious Vice President Emmanuel Pelaez Award for the most outstanding electric cooperatives in the country.

Engr. Loreto Marcelino, manager of PENELCO, said the award was given to the power firm for its exceptional operation and most vital contributions to the government’s vision of the socia-economic advancement of the nation during the celebration of National Electrification Administration’s (NEA) 33rd anniversary held at the Manila Midtown Hotel the other day.

As a leading electric cooperative in the country, PENELCO was cited for 100 percent energization program in Bataan’s 240 barangays and for its lowest power rate in Central Luzon, Marcelino said.

Based on NEA record, it was the first time that an electric cooperative from Luzon bagged this award from more than 120 electric coops evaluated for the year. In previous years, the said award was taken by those situated in the Visayas or Mindanao areas.

Marcelino said the support of the household consumers and local government officials led by Bataan Governor Leonardo Roman, Reps. Enrique Garcia and Antonino Roman have contributed to the success of PENELCO to meet the stringent requirements of the outstanding electric cooperative in the country.

In other developments, Marcelino was given recognition as the most outstanding National Electrification Administration (NEA) general manager for the year during the said occasion.

Marcelino, who took the helm as PENELCO manager for nine years, was chosen for his excellent leadership characterized by competence, dedication and exemplary performance in managing the cooperative toward the achievement of the goals of the Philippine Rural Electrification Programs. — Raffy Viray
