Rape suspect jumps from Manila City Hall’s 3rd floor

MANILA, Philippines – A man accused of raping a child was injured after he tried to escape by jumping from the third floor of the Manila City Hall on Tuesday afternoon.

Raul Basco, 44, of Singalong street, Ermita, was being escorted by Police Officer 3 Perla Garcia of the Manila Police District Station 9 and Barangay 729 councilman Rolando Navarro for his inquest proceedings at the prosecutor’s office when he ran to the window and jumped.

Basco suffered injuries and was taken to the Ospital ng Maynila for treatment.

Garcia said Basco was charged with violation of the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act.
