Motorcycle theft in Metro Manila down

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday reminded motorcycle owners anew to remain vigilant even as the number of motorcycle theft in Metro Manila went down this month.

At the regular Oplan Lambat-Sibat meeting at Camp Crame, the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) reported that motorcycle theft dropped from a monthly average of 63 cases in June 2014 to 39 this month.

PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor said motorcycle owners should always park their motorcycles in safe and well-lighted areas and install security devices.

“Make sure to put tire-lock on your motorcycle at all times and do not leave your motorcycle with keys or unattended in public places,” Mayor said.

The DIDM said the Quezon City Police District recorded the highest number of motorcycle theft from Aug. 17 to 23 with 15 incidents, Manila Police District, 12, and Southern Police District, six.

The Eastern Police District had the least number of cases with only three incidents on the said week.

The Northern Police District recorded three incidents in the same period, down from 10 cases from Aug. 10 to 16.

The DIDM said the police stations in Quezon City that recorded the most number of motorcycle theft are Lagro with four and Masambong, Talipapa and Ermita, with three cases each.
