Quezon City to generate P1.5 B from tax amnesty

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City government expects to generate as much as P1.5 billion in revenue from the implementation of a property tax relief measure.

Mayor Herbert Bautista yesterday said he would enforce Ordinance 2363, which allows negligent real property owners to pay the local government an amount equivalent to their last five years of delinquency.

This means taxpayers will have to settle only the total delinquencies incurred from 2010 to  2014. Upon full payment, they will be allowed to pay for the current year’s real property tax.

Bautista said the tax relief program is valid for six months — from Jan. 5 to June 30 this year.

The mayor said he hoped the tax reform measure would encourage negligent taxpayers to settle their obligations.

He pointed out that the offer does not cover properties that have been auctioned in accordance with the Local Government Code.

Failure of delinquent property owners to settle their obligations will result in the auction of their properties, Bautista said.
