MANILA, Philippines - One person was killed and six others were hurt in three separate road accidents hours apart since Saturday night.

In Pasay City, three drivers were injured when a 10-wheeler truck loaded with scrap metal crashed into a multi-cab and caused a five-car smashup.

Francis Fabic, the multi-cab’s driver, suffered serious injuries after he was pinned in his vehicle following the accident at around 6:30 a.m. yesterday. ABS-CBN reported that Fabic’s companion, Paul Penadroso, was brought to the San Juan de Dios Hospital for minor injuries.

Investigators said the driver of the truck (TTY-357) was heading west and was supposed to stop at the corner of NAIA and Domestic Roads but the brakes failed, causing the truck to rear-end the multi-cab.

The impact caused the multi-cab to hit an Isuzu Trooper, which in turn hit a taxi, which then rammed a Hyundai car.

Traffic investigators placed the truck driver, identified by ABS-CBN as Cresente Dotarot, under custody.

In Quezon City, a man riding a motorcycle was killed when he was hit by a dump truck along Quezon Avenue Saturday night.

Renny Boy Aquino, a resident of Barangay Bago Bantay, fell off his motorcycle and the dump truck ran over his head, a witness told police.

The witness said the dump truck sped away but its driver, Joseph Caponpon, was subsequently arrested. Caponpon faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property, ABS-CBN said.

In Manila, police officers arrested the driver of a Toyota Prado (WDE-171) after the vehicle hit a couple on a motorcycle along Nepomuceno street in San Miguel, Quiapo Saturday night.

The driver was not identified by police officers. The couple, who was also not identified, was treated for serious injuries by Philippine Red Cross volunteers.
