MANILA, Philippines - A 42-year-old scavenger plying his trade on a pedicab was killed after he was run over by an oncoming delivery van from the opposite lane yesterday in Valenzuela City.
Bernardino Ampo was traveling southbound on the North Luzon Expressway east service road in Barangay Lawang Bato when he was bumped by a car whose driver tried to overtake him on the wrong side of the narrow road. The car sped away after the collision.
The victim was thrown from the impact and landed in the opposite lane, right in the path of a food factory van driven by Raymund Sacayan, 27. Sacayan surrendered to authorities and was charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide before the Valenzuela City prosecutor’s office.
