It’s an eating feast at Shang’s GourmetFest on Oct. 20 and 21

Shangri-La Plaza EVP and general manager Lala Fojas opens the GourmetFest at Shangri-La Mall, ongoing until tomorrow, Oct. 21.

MANILA, Philippines — Eating is everything — at least for those of us who are (always) hungry. So, it was with much excitement that I visited the culinary GourmetFest at the Grand Atrium of Shangri-La Plaza Mall last Oct 17, the tasting day of all the goodies lined up for the Gourmet Fest on Oct. 20 and 21.

The GourmetFest opened to mall guests last Oct. 18 and it has been a foodie hit since then. It was loaded with delicious eats at special prices. Plus, for the GourmetFest, mall-goers can look forward to live demos and workshops led by some of the best chefs in the country as well as exciting promos from the restaurants.

Balboa fuses American dining with Italian cuisine.

“We’re delighted to host the GourmetFest once again,” said Lala Fojas, executive vice president and general manager of Shangri-La Plaza. “We always look forward to gathering our roster of restaurants and show mall guests that the Shang is the go-to destination for the best food in town.”

There was a stall of Brotzeit for that German culinary experience, while Pasto offers a taste of signature Italian dishes. Rich Hispanic flavors come to life at Spanish bistro Wobbly Pan, where guests can indulge in tapas, paellas and more, while Balboa fuses American dining with Italian cuisine — definitely a must try. Paper Moon’s crepe cakes and La Creperie’s famous crepes are yummy, paired with a pick-me-up cup from Figaro or Bo’s Coffee Primo.

Discover Asian favorites with a twist as Teppanyaki chefs at Akira and grill masters at SumoSam take Japanese dining to the next level. Foodies will surely enjoy Zao, which offers a taste of Vietnam, and take delight in Arya’s Persian cuisine as well. Spice things up at Thai BBQ and Pepper Lunch, or warm up with a bowl or two at Ganso Shabuway. Shi Lin’s xiao long bao soup dumplings are also sure to be a crowd hit.

At Brotzeit, diners go through an authentic German culinary experience.

Other restos include the all-American offerings of Kettle, Epicurious, and Tender Bob’s, as well as the unique sandwiches at Pepi Cubano. Fill up on pizza with a twist at California Pizza Kitchen, and don’t miss the spread by Red Crab, where seafood lovers are sure to get their fill of fresh, juicy crabs.

For the weekend, diners at the Shangri-La Plaza can also get a chance to win a trip for two to Singapore via Singapore Airlines with hotel accommodations and Singapore Explorer Pass Tickets in the GourmetFest Dining Promo. Dine in any restaurant at Shangri-La Plaza from Oct. 18 to Nov. 18 with a minimum spend of P500, and get one raffle coupon.

Not to be missed is the spread by Red Crab.

For those looking to learn, there is a culinary experience as Metro Channel and Metro.Style launch the first leg of the Metro Kitchen Series today at 3 p.m. Chefs Sandy Daza and Robby Goco, as well as Wobbly Pan’s Rolando de Gracia, will be showcasing their masterful interpretations in their respective demonstrations.
