Buteyko reverses sleep disorders

MANILA, Philippines - Sound sleep leads to a healthier and longer life. However, for people who suffer from sleep disorders, a good night’s rest is always a daily challenge.

Out of over a hundred sleep disorders, none is more serious and life-threatening than obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), in which breathing pauses up to 10 seconds many times during the night. This condition is associated with hypertension, heart problems, stroke, obesity, sexual dysfunction, and clinical depression.

Sleep apnea and other sleep disorders can be successfully managed by retraining one’s breathing through the Buteyko method.

Introduced in the country by Jac Vidgen, an Australian senior practitioner with 17 years of experience in teaching the method, Buteyko has helped many Filipinos get sound, snore-free sleep in the last 14 years besides providing immediate and long-term relief from asthma, allergies, anxiety disorders, hay fever, coughing, and stress.

The method also helps manage serious cases of emphysema and COPD as well as helps reverse migraine, hypertension, chronic bronchitis, digestive disorders, immune or hormone function, weight problems, and skin disorders.

Vidge will conduct a series of Buteyko workshops in Metro Manila (five two-hour sessions for adults and children at least four years old) on Nov. 8, 9, 10, 14 and 22, 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Living Life Well, 5th level, Mega Atrium, SM Megamall.

He will hold workshops in Quezon City on Nov. 11, 6 p.m.-8 p.m., and Nov. 12, 13, 19, and 26, 4 p.m.-6 p.m., at PhilDHRRA Partnership Center, 59 C. Salvador St. (left off B. Gonzales, Katipunan Avenue), Loyola Heights.

In Makati, his workshops will be held on Nov. 15, 16, 17, 21 and 25 (choice of 2 p.m.-4 p.m. or 6 p.m.-8 p.m.) at In Touch Community Services, 48-A McKinley Road, Forbes Park.
