MANILA, Philippines - South Africa’s 20th Freedom Day was celebrated recently at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-La, hosted by South African Ambassador Agnes Nyamande-Pitso and the rest of the South African Embassy in the Philippines. The reception was attended by the diplomatic corps, businessmen, distinguished senior political leaders and prominent Filipino social figures and officials led by DFA undersecretary for Policy Evan Garcia.
In her welcome remarks, Ambassador Nyamande-Pitso drew parallels between South Africa and the Philippines, namely that the countries share a similar colonial background, that both South Africans and Filipinos have the same aspirations for success, and that both nations now enjoy the status of being truly free.
