Logico takes over as PMA superintendent  

MANILA, Philippines — Lt. Gen. Michael Logico assumed command as the 86th superintendent of the Philippine Military Academy on Wednesday, July 22, vowing to prepare cadets for the changing nature of warfare.

Logico succeeded Vice Adm. Caesar Bernard Valencia, who retired after more than four decades in uniform.

"We cannot prepare for yesterday's war. We must prepare for the next one," Logico said in his assumption remarks at Fort General Gregorio H. del Pilar, where Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Antonio Nafarrete presided over the change of command ceremony.

Logico said he would push a culture of continuous innovation at the academy while keeping its traditions intact. "Our traditions remain important, but tradition must never become an obstacle to excellence," he said.

He also paid tribute to Valencia, saying his predecessor "faithfully discharged the solemn responsibility entrusted to him," and committed to continue the reforms already underway.

A member of PMA "Maalab" Class of 1993, Logico concurrently serves as the 61st commander of the Philippine Army's Training Command. 

His career has included positions in joint training, doctrine development, operational planning and multinational military engagements, including stints as executive agent for the AFP joint exercise Dagitpa and the Balikatan exercises. 

He holds master's degrees from the Ateneo de Manila University, the Development Academy of the Philippines, and the National Defense College of the Philippines.

Valencia, the academy's 85th superintendent, served exactly two years in the post, from July 22, 2024 to July 22, 2026.
