MANILA, Philippines — Executive Secretary Ralph Recto announced that the national government has secured a firm order of 1.04 million barrels of diesel.

In a statement on Sunday, March 29, Recto said the first batch is expected to arrive this week.

“Meanwhile, the oil diplomacy ably conducted by energy officials led by Secretary Sharon Garin has resulted in the firm order of 1.04 million barrels of diesel, with the first batch arriving this week,” Recto’s statement read.

He added that the country will receive a steady supply of coal from Indonesia.

Marcos confirmed on Friday, March 27 that the Philippines maintains an adequate crude oil supply to last until June 30, 2026. As of March 20, the government reported a fuel reserve of approximately 45 days, which is being bolstered by the procurement of an additional 1 million barrels of oil to serve as buffer stock.

More than 700,000 barrels of Russian crude oil have also arrived on March 23. The shipment was ordered by Petron, according to media reports.

As of March 20, the Department of Energy said the country has an estimated oil supply reserve of 45.10 days.

This is due to the country’s heavy reliance on imported oil, which has been significantly affected by tensions in the Middle East.
