Marcos picks new leader for PDEA

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named retired police Maj. Gen. Isagani Nerez as the new chief of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Asked by reporters if Nerez had been appointed to the position, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said, "yes"
Retired police general Moro Virgilio previously held the post before Nerez’s appointment.
Before becoming PDEA chief, Nerez served as an undersecretary for the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Military Affairs after his appointment in 2022.
He was also the chief superintendent of the Cordillera police.
In 2023, Nerez was part of a five-man advisory group that screened the courtesy resignations of high-ranking police officers as part of the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s probe into alleged involvement in illegal drugs.
The Palace has yet to release Nerez’s appointment papers.
