MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte poked fun at herself as she cracked a morbid joke about surviving a stab in the neck, in a skit posted on social media days after she left the Marcos Cabinet.

In the video, Duterte was reading a Bible when the cameraman tapped her shoulder and asked what caused the scarring on her neck.

“This? Sinubukan nila akong gigulgul (they tried to slash my neck) pero hindi sila nagtagumpay (but they didn’t succeed),” she said.

In an interview with reporters in Cagayan de Oro, Duterte said interpreting what she said was unnecessary since it was straightforward.

When pressed on who wanted to stab her, she said, “All of them.”

Duterte earlier said her resignation as secretary of the Department of Education and vice chair of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict was made in consideration of DepEd’s best interest.

Her resignation will take effect on July 19.

After her resignation, Duterte said she and President Marcos remained friendly on a personal level.

Duterte has, however, effectively ended their political partnership when she said that the UniTeam was a tandem created only for the 2022 elections.
