MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has signed into law a measure increasing the monthly veteran’s disability pension by as much as 488 percent.

Republic Act (RA) 11958 or “An Act Rationalizing the Disability Pension of Veterans, Amending for the Purpose RA 6948 or An Act Standardizing and Upgrading the Benefits for Military Veterans and their Dependents” was enacted on Aug. 24.

It provides a monthly disability pension to a veteran who is disabled due to sickness, disease, wounds or injuries sustained in the line of duty in accordance with the rates prescribed by the new law.

A veteran’s disability benefit was raised by 350 percent to P4,500 from the current P1,000.

Veterans receiving the highest disability benefit of P1,700 would now get P10,000 or 488 percent increase based on the new law.

As for the monthly pension of a veteran’s spouse and unmarried minor child/children, each would receive P1,000, a 100 percent increase from P500.

Meanwhile, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada said the long-awaited enactment of the bill increasing veterans’ disability pension marks a significant milestone in recognizing and honoring those who have dedicated their lives to the service of our nation.

“It is vital to emphasize that this law is not just about numbers on paper. It’s about the lives we are impacting and the families we are uplifting. By supporting our veterans, we honor their legacy, strengthen their dignity and provide them the comfort they deserve in their golden years,” he added.

Marcos also signed on Aug. 24 RA 11960 or “An Act Institutionalizing the One Town, One Product (OTOP) Philippines Program” and RA 11961 or “An Act Strengthening the Conservation and Protection of Philippine Cultural Heritage Through Cultural Mapping and Enhanced Cultural Heritage Education Program.”

RA 11960 aims to develop a self-reliant and independent national economy through policies and programs that drive inclusive local economic activity, provide adequate and effective support services for local micro, small and medium enterprises.

RA No. 11961, meanwhile, amended RA 10066, otherwise known as the “National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009.”
