Palace declares September 3 a working holiday

MANILA, Philippines — Workers won’t be getting extra pay for reporting to work today, as employers are not required to give additional pay during special working holidays, the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) said yesterday.

“When a day is declared special working holiday, offices are open and schools have classes. It means there is no additional pay for workers who will report for work,” the NWPC said.

President Duterte has declared Sept. 3 as a national special working holiday to commemorate the surrender of the Japanese military forces led by Gen. Tomoyuki Yamashita in Baguio City. 

The law states that workers will only receive additional pay during regular and special non-working holidays.
