MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Samuel has made its fifth landfall over Iloilo province Wednesday morning, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
At 9:00 a.m., “Samuel” hit the land of Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo.
Its center was seen at the vicinity of Leganes, Iloilo as of 10 a.m. The tropical depression bears maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 65 kph.
"Samuel" has slightly accelerated, now moving southwest at 40 kph from the previous 30 kph.
The state weather bureau has lifted Signal No. 1 over Masbate, including Ticao island, Biliran and Leyte.
But Signal No. 1 remains raised over 11 areas:
- Romblon
- Southern Oriental Mindoro
- Southern Occidental Mindoro
- Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo groups of islands
- Northern Cebu
- Northern Negros Occidental
- Guimaras
- Iloilo
- Capiz
- Aklan
- Antique
PAGASA warned that residents of MIMAROPA, CALABARZON, Western Visayas, Aurora, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Catanduanes may experience moderate to heavy rains, which may trigger floods and landslides.
"Samuel" may leave the Philippine area of responsibility between Thursday evening and Friday morning.
